Book Review – Kiss of Deception

Kiss of deception! KISS OF DECEPTION! Please chant with me. I can’t hearrrr you!!! I’m serious this book was hands down amazing! I am always looking for fast paced fantasy reads and this one has it all! Goodreads says it best…
A princess must find her place in a reborn world.

She flees on her wedding day. She steals ancient documents from the Chancellor’s secret collection. She is pursued by bounty hunters sent by her own father. She is Princess Lia, seventeen, First Daughter of the House of Morrighan. The Kingdom of Morrighan is steeped in tradition and the stories of a bygone world, but some traditions Lia can’t abide. Like having to marry someone she’s never met to secure a political alliance. Fed up and ready for a new life, Lia flees to a distant village on the morning of her wedding. She settles in among the common folk, intrigued when two mysterious and handsome strangers arrive—and unaware that one is the jilted prince and the other an assassin sent to kill her. Deceptions swirl and Lia finds herself on the brink of unlocking perilous secrets—secrets that may unravel her world—even as she feels herself falling in love.

The book starts off with Lia, a princess who is forced to marry to bring 2 kingdoms together. Lia though is having none of that and escapes on a horse! I had no expectations about this book and i was on the edge of my seat the entire time. I suggest you grab this one and get all your necessities ready because you won’t want to leave the couch/bed/chair/toilet in fear of missing out on anything in this book. I read it in 1 day and immediately wanted more.

Mary is such a great writer. She knows how to keep the suspense while slowly giving you hints. I really enjoyed the 3 POVs in this one which is good because different POVs are growing on me and is helping me to further pick up books that aren’t written from one characters perspective.
If you’re looking for a bit of romance this one has it! There’s the assassin and the prince and you don’t know which character is which! It’s fantastic. Mary you sly woman. That was such a great idea. It had me guessing. The plot is so fast paced and each chapter leaves you wanting more my friends! So pick this one up now!

  1. My favorite thing about this book is that I kept trying to guess who was the assassin and who was the prince. I can’t believe I got it right at the end!
I also really like Mary E. Pearson’s writing style. I hope she releases more books, since I really enjoyed the characters she created. My favorite one was Rafe, but I really like Lia and Pauline as well. Their friendship was absolutely adorable!
